This facility showcases pottery vessels, stone tools, and other unearthed items that convey the life led at the Kitakogane Site and rituals and ceremonies held there. Among those archaeological finds, the numerous grinding stones and ritual implements made from whale bones are not to be missed.

Kitakogane Site

This is a settlement site accompanied by shell mounds on a hill overlooking Uchiura Bay. The settlement comprises myriad features, including pit dwellings, graves, shell mounds, and a watering place. From the shell mounds, countless sea shells (from common Orient clams, oysters, scallops, etc.), fish bones (from tuna, flounder, etc.) and marine mammal bones (from fur seals, whales, etc.) have been excavated. These indicate the fishing-oriented livelihood that was pursued in the region.
